Which mailboxes work
Any mailbox that speaks IMAP and SMTP: your own domain, a company mailbox, or a provider like Fastmail, Zoho or iCloud. Microsoft 365 and Outlook.com sign in through Microsoft itself — Microsoft turned off password sign-in for mail, so there is no other way in.
Gmail is not supported and will not be. Google requires an annual security audit of anyone whose server touches Gmail data, and the price of that audit would land on you.
Sign-in fails and the message mentions consent
Some organisations restrict which apps their people may connect. Disconnect the mailbox and sign in again — consent is asked during sign-in. If the request never appears, an administrator has to allow it.
The server says there are too many connections
Exchange limits how many programs may hold a mailbox open at once. Close spare copies of the app; it usually clears within a few minutes.
Sending is refused
Microsoft 365 ships with SMTP sending switched off. It is turned on per mailbox under “Authenticated SMTP” in mail app management, and for the whole organisation as SMTP AUTH in the mail flow settings. Tiho will also send through Microsoft directly where that is allowed.
Notifications
To tell you about mail the moment it arrives, our server holds a connection to your mailbox, and for that it stores access to it, encrypted. From a message it reads only the sender and the subject — there has to be something to show in the notification — and encrypts them with a key that belongs to your device. Nobody can read them on the way, not even Apple. The body of the message it never reads and nothing is kept.
Disconnect the mailbox and that stored access is wiped. Notifications are asked for on their own screen, never silently.
Removing your data
Disconnecting a mailbox deletes the downloaded mail and the saved access from the device, and wipes the server’s copy of the access. Nothing changes inside the mailbox itself — it belongs to your provider, not to us.
If you would rather we did it from our side, write to hello@tiho.one from the address in question.
Bulk mail
Campaigns go out through a sending service with your own key, never from your mailbox. A personal mailbox hits its provider’s limit within the first hundred messages, and the domain lands in spam afterwards. Verify your sending domain in that service first, or the whole campaign will be filtered.
Reporting a problem
Tell us what you did, what you expected and what happened instead. If the app showed a message, quote it — the wording tells us which of several causes it was. Please do not send passwords or access tokens; we never need them.
